Chapter 3

Plant Life in the Desert Southwest

desert plant life

The Desert Southwest has a surprising variety of plant life that abounds
growing either upright or close to the ground.

One of the most common plants that come to mind
doesn't have leaves but instead has spines.
Cacti have spines to keep from being eaten
and store water in their stems season after season.

Cactus also grows in a variety of sizes and shapes
some as tall as houses while some hug the landscape.
